New to me

So, I had this little unexplained pain in my lower back last Tuesday while out shopping with Gardner. I passed it off as lifting too many boxes the day before as I'd been working to further clear out our garage. Three hours later, the pain finally subsided. Vanished as suddenly as it appeared. Gone for good, I thought....just a one-time incident? Not quite. Today, it hit me again, this time on the other side of my back and tailbone. Two o'clock rolled around, and I was good for nothing but lying down on the couch, flipping back and forth, trying to find a way to make it stop. I wondered for a brief second whether or not it could be Braxton Hicks this early. Nope....it wouldn't be only on one side, would it? A call to a friend and two hours later, I realized that another fear was realized....it is sciatic nerve pain. Though medical research disputes it, most doctors say that a baby can turn in certain ways during the latter parts of pregnancy to put pressure on the sciatic n...

Sweet

I woke up this morning to the most subtle little kicks from the baby. Only it wasn't kicks. I woke up to the feeling of our baby girl's first case of the hiccups. I had forgotten how it feels. Amazing.

Finally! And WOW!

We finally made it for our ultrasound appointment this morning! After two reschedules, at last, we were able to see our new baby on the big screen. Everything is perfect....size, length, weight, everything. We are so grateful! Here are some photos to document the occasion: Here's the little one! The baby wouldn't wake up to get a good profile shot....but we got a cute face photo. Many of you will see the photo below and go.....WHAT?!!? I know, I know. We were so adamant about waiting, but within the past week, Ken and I both realized that we just had to know. As you can see, it's a baby GIRL! Gardner will have a little sister! And here is a photo Ken took of himself.....don't know exactly when, but judging from his expression, no doubt it was right after the technician announced that we were getting a girl. :) Can you tell he's excited? We can't wait to meet you, Baby Girl Wilson! Name to be revealed to all....very, very soon! (We still have a decision...

First little scare (blown out of proportion by yours truly)

So, last night, I had my first little scare with this, my second, pregnancy. (You'd think I'd remember every little detail from the first. Somehow pregnancy hormones have a way of making you forget everything....past memories, your phone number, everything.) I sat down on the couch with a magazine, after a long day of painting and wallpaper stripping. I try to relax every evening after Gardner goes to bed, namely so I can sit still and enjoy the baby's acrobatic skills as he or she dances in my belly. Within minutes, I realized I didn't feel the baby. In fact, if I thought back, I hadn't felt the baby move in three or more hours. I jumped up. "The flashlight!" I placed the MagLite on my abdomen, knowing this always worked when Gardner was slumbering and uncooperative. Nothing. I laid on my left side. My right side. My back. I got on all fours. I still felt not even one tiny nudge from within. Initiate freak-out mode. Ken balanced a fine line ...

Coincidence

Weird, but true....I came down with a stomach flu (or food poisioning) Tuesday night, which left me unable to go (yet again) Wednesday morning to have the ultrasound so we could see our little baby. What's weird is that I had a bug similar to this also in my 21st week of pregnancy with Gardner....right AFTER my ultrasound. We had to postpone it again, same time, same day next week. Pictures will be posted promptly...I promise. :) The baby has been slower than usual, probably due to the lack of calories I took in....but I could always poke, poke, poke around to make him or her move and throw back some punches. The baby's getting big enough now, too, to sit on top of and kick at my full bladder, which is a "joy of pregnancy" that I'd forgotten about since last time!
